Ski Resort Korea
South Korea’s mountains, although not very high, have a great potential for ski slope development. The country boasts of 13 high standard ski resorts with a variety of slopes. Several of them also host winter snow festivals, and national and international competitions.

POPULAR SKI RESORTS
Muju Resort
Muju Resort is located less than a 3-hour drive from Incheon International airport, within Mt.Deokyu National Park. Despite the fact that it is bone chilling cold there in the winter, they don't seem to get a lot of snow so almost all of the snow is man-made. Muju Resort has 30 extensive ski slopes. With 13 lifts and a cable car, rates are 13,000 to 60,000 won depending on the time of the day and number of lift rides. Ski lessons are also provided for the beginners. Skiers here can experience ultimate thrills from sunrise to sunset…and even through the night while a safety patrol on rounds keeps a close eye on the lifts, slopes and you.
Yongpyeong resort
Located approximately 135 miles from Seoul in Gangwon-do Province, it is the oldest ski resort. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking, with the East Sea and Mount Odaesan visible from the slopes on clear days.
Host to several international events over the years, including the Ski World Cup and the Winter Asian Games, Yongpyeong resort has an excellent range of ski runs, with a great assortment of 31 novice, intermediate and advanced slopes. There is a system of 14 lifts and 1 cable car that also carries skiers to the summit of Mt. Balwang where they can enjoy the view of the landscape. The starting price for an adult is $58 per day. The hotels and condos at the resort provide upscale lodgings and a reasonable selection of restaurants, nightclubs and bars.
The ski season at Yongpyeong is from about mid-November to late March.
Phoenix Park
Due to Gangwon Province’s mountainous terrain and abundant snowfall, a number of other ski resorts are located within the vicinity of Yongpyeong. Of particular interest is Phoenix Park, Korea’s largest ski area. It is known for its variety of slopes, spectacular views and great selection of lodgings and facilities.
There are 13 ski slopes at Phoenix Park including trails connected by a system of eight chairlifts. The ski resort is positioned so as to provide fabulous views of the surrounding countryside and other recreational facilities available here are top-notch including a variety of dining establishments, coffee shops, bars and dance clubs. The ski season at Phoenix Park runs from December to March.
Alps Resort
Alps resort is roughly a 5-hour drive from Seoul. Built atop the Jinburyeoung plateau, it is renowned for its European elegance and prolific snowfall. Majestic Mount Seoraksan dominates the landscape, while visible in the distance, the Eastern Sea provides visitors with a breathtaking view.
There are eight different skiing trails at Alps, served by five lifts. Night skiing is permitted until 22:00. Sledding and snowboarding are offered as well as a host of indoor recreational activities. The ski resort is purpose-built and resembles a small town and encompasses a wide range of leisure and convenience facilities as well as several accommodation options.
Skiing conditions at Alps resort are generally good throughout the season (December-March)
Bears Town
Bears Town is one of Korea’s most popular skiing destinations. It is located on Mount Sorak and is known for its exceptionally fresh mountain air. Conveniently situated less than an hour’s drive from Seoul, Bears Town is a highly developed, self-contained ski resort with a wide range of accommodation options and leisure choices. There are 11 ski slopes, served by nine chairlifts and two cable cars. The resort’s long ski hours make it a great place to experience both night and early morning skiing.
The ski season at Bears Town runs from December to March, and although the resort has an extensive snow-making system, slope conditions are extremely variable depending on crowds and fluctuations in weather.
Yangji Pine Ski Valley
It is situated only 47 miles from Seoul, making it a great destination for a weekend getaway. There are seven (though not particularly long) well-maintained slopes at Yangji ski resort offering skiing and entertainment for all ages and abilities. It is served by a system of six ski lifts comprising of four chairlifts and two cars. Off-slope entertainment at Yangji includes a health centre, various sports courts and games, sauna, swimming pool, and an internet café.
Skiing is offered between early December and early March with occasional fluctuations due to weather conditions.
Chonmasan
This ski destination is located just 20 miles from the city of Seoul on Mount Chonma.
There are six slopes, covering a total of two and a half miles in trail length and catering to all levels of ability. Ski runs are served by eight separate ski lift systems.
The ski season at Chonmasan resort runs from December to March, with the best conditions being in late December and January; slopes tend to be slushy at the start and finish of the season.
Hyundai Sungwoo
Hyundai Sungwoo has been chosen as the site for the 2009 World Snowboard Championship Games and World Cup Snowboard Games. Just a 2-hour drive from Seoul in Gangwon Province, it is located amid breathtaking mountain scenery, in close proximity to the beautiful Mount Chiaksan National Park.
With 20 extremely varied slopes to challenge the best skiers in the world, the resort also offers fun and excitement for all ages and skiing abilities. The slopes are served by nine ski lifts including eight chairlifts and one eight-person cable car.
